ABOUT

Antares was founded in 2005 in order to provide independent marine consultancy and survey services.

 

Since then we have been involved in a wide range of projects and work scopes in the UK, Ireland and internationally.

 
Complementing the experienced in-house resources available, we work closely with a network of associated disciplines and professionals and can offer a proven and effective service to assist in managing and mitigating against risk to your operations and assets. 
 
We are located within 20 minutes drive of Belfast Harbour and Belfast City Airport and will attend in any port in Ireland, Britain, Continental Europe or further afield as required.

Captain Simon Brown AFNI MCMS
Principal Surveyor

The Antares practice is headed by Simon Brown. Simon is a Master Mariner with command experience and has served on a wide range of vessel types including; product, black and crude oil tankers, short sea bulk carriers, RoPax, Freight Ro/Ro, High Speed Craft, Platform Supply and Anchor Handling Tug Supply, Dynamically Positioned Offshore Support vessels and Tugs.

In addition to wide exposure to general marine survey practice (hull, cargo, cargo pre-shipment, discharge surveys and supervision, Flag State statutory surveys, project cargo and heavy lift) whilst engaged as a Senior Surveyor with an international industry leading maritime survey and consultancy firm, Simon has also acted as Marine Warranty Surveyor over a broad range of towages and heavy lifts and also has experience of hands-on Tow Master scopes of work. Towage consultancy is a core service provided by the practice.

Antares have also provided maritime survey and consultancy support to Tier 1 EPCI offshore construction contactors. This has involved pre operational preparations and attendance during transportations and installations in varied locations globally. Support has included vessel suitability/condition surveys, charter party technical advice, drafting of method statements and procedures for marine operations, mooring design and installation, port suitability and transportation studies amongst many other scopes. 

Professional affiliations include Associate Fellowship of the Nautical Institute and Membership of the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors (SCMS) through which Simon is an accredited Code Vessel Examiner. The practice and  Surveyors are registered with the Federation of European Maritime Associations of Surveyors and Consultants (FEMAS) and we actively support the aims of both SCMS and FEMAS in maintaining professional education and operating standards in marine survey and consultancy practice.
